GBVS/Movement

From Dustloop Wiki

Ground Movement

Walking

Walking is the most basic form of movement by holding Template:4 or Template:6. While to the untrained eye, walking seems so basic that it's boring, it's actually very useful in GBVS. You can immediately cancel walking into any other action, thus giving you the ability to immediately react to the opponent's actions. Players often use walk to safely reposition themselves slight distances in order to maintain optimal range for their attacks.

Each character has different walk speeds, and different speeds between forwards and backwards.

Running

There's always three key parts to basic movement, and running is the second and can be done by either tapping and holding Template:4 (P2 advancing) or Template:6 (P1 Advancing) depending on the side you are on. Running covers more than walking would and much like other games similar to it, GBVS has a slight startup before you get to running.

Letting go of the run (or stopping in this case) has a stopping animation before you can take some defensive action such as walking back or back dashing, but does not limit your offensive actions.

Back Dash

The tertiary form of movement and is catered to more of a defensive retreat, back dash is inputted by doing either double tapping Template:4 (P1 side) or Template:6 (P2 side) away from the opponent.

Back dashing varies from character to character, with Lowain being an exception to the clause (actually runs away from the opponent).

Dodge

Dodge is one of two key evasive defense options that have been introduced to Granblue Fantasy Versus and can be done by using the Guard button + the direction away from the opponent (Template:4 for P1, Template:6 for P2).

Dodging is an excellent way to evade all incoming attacks, but also has a small recovery before you can act again.

Roll

The secondary form of defensive evasion introduced into GBVS. Roll can be inputted by using the Guard button + the direction towards the opponent (Template:6 for P1, Template:4 for P2).

Unlike dodge, rolls in the game only have invulnerability frames on the high and mid areas ultimately leaving them open to lows and has a longer recovery than dodging.

Air Movement

Jump

Jump is one of the air movements in Granblue Fantasy Versus and is done by inputting Template:8 to go straight up. Jumping can be uses offensively or defensively depending if you use Template:7 or Template:9 to move forward or backward while jumping or the latter to formulate your game plan.

High Jump

High Jumping is one of the secondary means of getting around from ground to air movement in GBVS and can be done by tapping Template:2, then tapping Template:8. Unlike regular jumps, high jumping launches you higher than a regular jump. Shortcuts like tapping Template:1 or Template:3, then tapping Template:7 or Template:9 will launch you either forward or backward with high jumps. It is always best to mix up the two types of jumps to keep your opponent on their toes depending on the situation.
