Controls
8 Directions, 5 Buttons
BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle uses the D pad for 8 way direction input, not analog input (though the Analog Stick can be used).
There are 5 attack buttons in total: A (Normal A), B (Normal B), C (Clash), D (Tag), P (Partner).
Basic Controls
- Clash Assault
- Press Template:5 to do an overhead attack. On successful hit, your teammate (if available) will perform a small cinematic combo. If your partner is not available or after assist summon your partner, then you will do a solo cinematic combo where damage is lessened. The follow-up hit can be timed with an additional press of , and deals more damage if timed correctly.
- Sweep
- Press Template:2 to perform a sweep like in UNI series.
- Smart Combo
- Repeated press or for an auto combo, similar to the P4A series or Smart Steer from UNI series, the Stylish modes in BB and GG. and each perform different combos, with some similarities as the recently released Dragon Ball FighterZ.
- Passing Link
- All normals, except Template:5 and certain j.s can be chained into each other once and only once similar to UNI.
- Partner Skill
- Press to call in your partner to perform an attack. Your partner will do different attacks by holding Template:4, Template:5, or Template:6. Using Partner Skills multiple times to reach Resonance Level 4 will unlock that Resonance Blaze Level’s exclusive feature, the Astral Heat.
- Reversal Action
- Press + to do an invincible reversal attack, similar to the Furious Actions of the P4A series. Your character will glow red when this happens. Reversal Actions deal only red damage on hit, and a punished Reversal Action cannot be Cross Bursted.
- Throw/Throw Reject
- Press + to perform a throw. If done from far away, your character will run forward for a bit before attempting the throw.
- To escape a throw, press + immediately after getting thrown.
- Currently, there is no Air Throw due to UNI cast do not have one.
- Reject Guard
- Press Template:6+ while blocking to push the opponent away, giving you some breathing room. Reject Guard costs 1 Skill Gauge.
- This is similar to the Advancing Guard in the Marvel vs. Capcom series or the pushblock mechanic in Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax series.
- Cross Combo
- Press + during a Partner Skill to keep the partner in and continue using Partner Skills by pressing attack buttons. Hold to prevent the partner from acting. Distortion Skills are enhanced during Cross Combo. Costs at least 50% Cross Gauge, and drains the gauge fully.
- Cross Burst
- Press + while getting hit to break the opponent's combo and tag in your partner. Only available when the Cross Gauge is full.
- This is similar to the Counter Switch mechanic in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.

- Your will automatically gain Skill Gauge
- Max Skill Gauge increases depending on Resonance Blaze level. Each level of Resonance Blaze increases max Skill Gauge size by 1, meaning at Level 4 Resonance Blaze, max Skill Gauge becomes 9. Max Skill Gauge reverts back to normal (5) when Resonance Blaze ends.
- Your recoverable health will automatically recover. The rate health recovers increases with Resonance Level.
- Normal attacks will deal chip damage
- Skills and Distortion Skills deal additional chip damage
- Skills can be canceled into Distortion Skills
- Much like Cross Combo state, Distortion Skills are also enhanced
- Your will automatically gain Skill Gauge

- Skills, Extra Skills, Distortion/Resonance Skills, Astral Heats
- The command input for Skills are restricted to Template:236, Template:214 and occasionally Template:22. Distortion/Resonance Skills are restricted to Template:236+ or Template:214+.
- Extra Skills are enhanced Skills involving a Skill motion + and cost 1 Skill Gauge. Your character will glow blue when this happens. Extra Skills deal no red health on hit.
- Astral Heat input is universally Template:222+, but requires 9 Skill Gauges (and by extension, Level 4 Resonance Blaze). Astral Heat is only available after you use Partner skills to reach Resonance Blaze Level 4, then when your opponent is down to one character, alongside with your partner, but has no health requirement to activate.
