P4U2R/Mitsuru Kirijo/Strategy

From Dustloop Wiki
 Mitsuru Kirijo

Neutral

  • You can perform well with this character by playing good neutral. She rewards good game sense and your ability to make hard reads on your opponent. She has tools to beat Option Selects well and ways to force opponents to take risks challenging her offense.
  • Her 5B has low invuln and beats throws which is a hard counter to the strategy of low profiling her 5A. You can use her 5A to set up scenarios where you can challenge your opponents attempts to low profile them with a CH 5B.
  • There's little in the way of "bells and whistles" with Mitsuru compared to the rest of the cast, she's one of the more honest characters in the game where what you see is essentially what you get.

Normal Mitsuru or Shadow Mitsuru?

At the moment, Shadow Mitsuru is considered the overall better character, though Normal Mitsuru has her own set of benefits that make her worth playing over her Shadow version. Normal Mitsuru might just fit better to a certain player's playstyle. The choice between picking these two characters depends on these factors:

Normal Mitsuru Shadow Mitsuru
Auto Combo Normal Mitsuru 5AA is an amazing tool for frametrapping/pressuring opponents. She can get 5AAA > B Droit which grants a hard knockdown in most situations, but also allows for a safejump afterwards. Shadow Mitsuru 5AA is able to link into 2[B] at close-ranges, which allows for more conversions than Regular, at the cost of being less effective in pressure situations.
SP Use Meter management is somewhat lenient, as she is able to spend meter more freely, though typically it is more wise to save meter so you are able to kill the opponent before they reach Awakening state. Meter management is much more strict, as Shadow Mitsuru is way more meter dependent for her damage. Without proper use of meter , you effectively are playing a weaker version of the character, and you would be better off playing Normal Mitsuru.
Burst Use Burst is mostly used in defensive situations, though if it is needed to close out a round, it can be used for One More Burst. Burst is saved for Shadow Frenzy in most situations, with it only being used defensively as a last resort. Losing Burst means you effectively lose a big source of Shadow Mitsuru's damage.
Execution A lot more room for error, can help you get used to the mechanics of the game. Recommended to learn Tentarafoo cancels as it can help close out rounds when in Awakening, but it is not as core to Normal Mitsuru's gameplan. A failure in execution could result in a complete waste of your resources, with especially Tentarafoo cancels being demanding with it's 3 frame cancel window, and having variable timings based on the version used and distance. For optimal play, it is absolutely recommended you know and can properly execute Shadow Frenzy routes.
