Info and Tactics

Compared to the previous game his maneuverability in detach mode is much better, but overcost is still absolutely fatal for him. So you want to play a firm, stable game as much as possible when you're in normal mode, and avoid getting hit. To some extent if you don't get in some damage while you're in detach mode, you're going to get worn down and lose.

In normal mode, defend yourself with your main and sub, and use your melee to catch your enemy with fire from odd angles. When using your main you want to make sure you've shot out both hands as frequently as you can. You should be aware that there is a short delay on the firing immediately after the hands shoot out.

You also want to consciously maneuver yourself while firing with your hands out so that your fire intersects your opponent in an L shape in order to apply pressure to them. But, be aware that you do not want to shoot until the arms are in position otherwise your barrage is relatively thin. Basically, you need to get used to timing your arm deployment and then firing your BR in order to land hits.

Fundamentally your overall game plan is to be careful and don't overdo it in normal mode, and then get aggressive in detach mode. In detach mode, if you take full advantage of all your tools (A, AB, AC), with a little bit of luck you can often find yourself in a good position to melee the enemy.

Seravee's assault tools have no guidance and you'll find it impossible to catch opponents just by moving him towards the opponent once. It's also common that he'll stop midway to your opponent and then turn around and come back to you.

It's really no problem if you use him a second or a third time to close on the enemy because detach mode AB has been changed drastically from the previous game and reloads almost instantly once it's depleted, so your ability to steadily pressure and capture your opponent with Seravee is very strong.

Furthermore, if you manage to down your opponent, try to park Seravee right next to them and then rolling buster oki them as they get up. Using Seravee's rolling buster and gerobi to control and stop your opponent's movements is a completely valid aim.

You can reap a variety of benefits from forcing the enemy to move by pressuring them with your gerobi, such buying time to to prevent your partner from being caught, and gradually accumulated damage.

If you're aiming to punish landings with Sera's gerobi be aware that the muzzle correction is very bad and it is frequently the case that you do NOT want to shoot Seravee's gerobi from an oblique angle, because it will completely miss.

Seravee's gerobi is decidedly hard to hit from long range due to the fact that you must not only stop Seravee in order to stabilize the hit but you must deal with the enemy being too far away for it to hit them in time before they move away.

Rather, what you should do is try to fight with Seravee close to your enemy, and you can severely limit your enemy's movements by outsmarting them and using Seravee's gerobi and rolling buster.

In either form, don't waste your main shot shooting wildly, in normal mode don't waste your claws, and in detach mode don't waste your AB. Rather than shooting wildly you want to observe carefully and fire when the chance to hit is very high.

Raphael's #1 weak point is that it's extremely difficult for him to intercept melee in normal mode.

You can try to do A->AB to fend them off but because but the stationary boost consumption is very high, doing this while you're double locked is extremely dangerous.

As for the extent of your AC's reach, you can stop approaching opponents unexpectedly sometimes but if they catch onto your strategy they can easily switch over to just shooting you with their main when they come close because Raphael suddenly stops and corrects himself before firing, so it's not a reliable defensive option.

His 2B tackle's priority is also not very good so fighting at a distance or switching into detach mode ASAP is really your best option for dealing with someone trying to get in your face. Do NOT try to melee them.

The fundamental strength of detach mode is that you can quickly run away a bad situation. His weight is also different so you can try to escape a bad situation by rising into the air.

If you succeed in using Seravee to escape the enemy is further prevented from approaching you because you can now easily intercept and even self-cut them with Seravee.

Raphael's base game plan is very simple: Keep yourself alive and minimize damage in normal mode, and get aggressive in detach mode. This is the fundamental strategy you have to learn to succeed.

Partner Considerations

Compared to the previous game, the time limit on Seravee and his overall maneuverability has been significantly improved. Because of the time limit on your detach mode, the trickiness of operating Seravee without accidentally shooting your partner, and Raphael's need to stay near his partner when he's in normal mode, you want a partner you can count on to cooperate with and protect you. Because he's a ranged unit that relies so heavily on cooperation with his partner, it is recommended you use him for Team Hold rather than Team Shuffle.
